******************************************************************
The San Diego Unified Board Meeting during/near Graduation Week is ALWAYS impactful to SDUSD Stakeholders. Part of the intrigue in this meeting is that the SDUSD Superintendent and Board use it to propose and vote on important issues under the DISTRACTIONS AND COVER of the busiest school site week of the year…WHEN MOST SDUSD STAKEHOLDERS ARE PREOCCUPIED WITH END OF YEAR AND GRADUATION ACTIVITIES!
Last year during Graduation Week a panicky, inexperienced Superintendent Cindy Marten decided to cut ELST’s with NO ELL COLLABORATION..and set back the education of 28,000 students and families in the most needy schools.
This year there are 3 items on the “Graduation Week” Board of Education Agenda that will, if passed, seriously and negatively impact the education of our children/students but also severely erode SDUSD Stakeholder confidence and trust with the current Board of Education.
Here are the 3!
1. Item D1 – Administrative Assignments – The Marten/SDUSD Purge of Highly Qualified Educators
District Deeds Reference Material:
The Principal Selection Side Show Series, The Marten/SDUSD PURGE, The SDUSD Brain Drain
Description:
Skilled, well credentialed Administrators and Staff are now doing anything they can to RUN from the incompetent Marten Administration. Marten’s Principal Hit List may rise to OVER 20 Principals to date in this board meeting. Watch closely to see who the Marten and her Inner Circle has duped your selection committee into choosing….or…what lapdog they have assigned to your school that will be willing to lie for Marten to keep their job.
Recommended Stakeholder Action:
The Board has already voted for the named candidates so no amount of public comment can change the decision by the time they are announced…but you can email the Board about the horrible process that the incompetent Marten implements every year to try to get the process…or Marten… changed.
2. Item E1: 2015-16 San Diego High School Administrative Leadership Structure – The Marten Fauxllaboration Bait and Switch
District Deeds Reference Material:
Description:
Major upheaval at San Diego High School led by Marten and Area Superintendent Mitzi Moreno. In brief, Marten decided she wanted to change things at SDHS. She started with a complete fabrication that the SDHS of Media, Visual and Performing Arts (MVPA) was underperforming and closed its doors in May. Then in a classic Marten Fauxllaboration Bait and Switch, Marten had her assigned henchman, Mitzi Moreno conduct meeting with SDHS Stakekholders with one set of defined goals and then came up with complete changes to the site that NO STAKEHOLDER EVEN KNOW THEY WERE DISCUSSING! Marten will be asking the SDUSD Board to approve her scam at SDHS.
Recommended Stakeholder Action:
Sign up for comment for that item and ask the board to call out Marten for her lies and deception.
3. Item H.3 – 2016-17 Academic Calendar for All District Schools – Marten Ignores Stakeholder Opinion Defying Board Instructions
District Deeds Reference Material:
Marten Ignores Stakeholder Opinion and Defies Board On Calendar Change Recommendation
Description:
Despite precise instruction by multiple Board Trustees to collaborate and identify SDUSD Stakeholder preference, Marten is recommending the exact OPPOSITE of what the District was told by a vast majority of SDUSD Stakeholder…to LEAVE THE START DATE TO AFTER LABOR DAY FOR THE 2016/17 SCHOOL YEAR.
Recommended Stakeholder Action:
Sign up for comment on this item and voice your disagreement with the toal lack of collaboration by the incompetent Cindy Marten.
NOTE; THE SDUSD BOARD HAS A WAY OF SHUFFLING THE ORDER OF ITEMS SO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE AGENDA AND WATCH FOR THE ITEM NUMBERS AS THEY COME UP.
We will be posting a debrief on what happens on the other side…
Thanks Frank for keeping families well informed!
Minority and low income families are, yet again, facing the brunt of ill advised district budget decisions, like closing SD High School’s MVPA.
Many of these families are limited English proficient and face many obstacles to effectively advocate for their children. As you explained in your June 3 post, the district, instead of facilitating genuine stakeholder participation, denies families this right.
I will continue to work towards increasing awareness of the need for our district to live up to its Code of Ethics: “…the district exists to serve the needs of students, parents, and the community.”
