10 LOST INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS…AND COUNTING!!!

Finally tomorrow, Monday, April 6, 2020 , incompetent Elementary School Superintendent (ESS) Cindy Marten (aka: CINDY-20) and Trustee Richard “Tricky Dick” Barrera are finally STARTING to initiate a sketchy, “soft launch” plan for NO GRADES/NO ACCOUNTABILITY Distance Learning that excludes most of the NEEDIEST Students – English Language Learners (ELL), Special Education (SPED) and Economically Disadvantaged.

The total lack of a Disaster Recovery or Educational Continuity Plan by the inexperienced ESS Marten and her crony Board of Education Trustees lead by Tricky Dick Barrera has doomed all the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) students to an incomplete, sub-par education for the rest of the 2019/2020 school year.

The result of this gross SDUSD mismanagement by Marten, Barrera and their cronies, is 10 lost instructional days…and counting!

Given the ineffective, inconsistent and erratic educational leadership Sandemic created by CINDY-20 during the COVID-19 Coronavirus shutdown, District Deeds will try and fill a small part of the huge educational gap with articles, news and a special Page dedicated to tools, strategies and  materials for families and employees who are bearing the brunt of CINDY-20 inexperience and incompetence.

Below is an interesting article and other information we received and discovered this past week regarding the Coronavirus impact to K-12 education…

DCPS Explains Roll Out of ‘Duval Home Room’ Online Learning Plans

News Conference March 18, 2020 by the 130,000 Student Duval (Fla.) County School District:

Quote from article:

Officials with Duval County Public Schools held a news conference Wednesday to discuss further information about their plan to use Duval Home Room as their online learning portal amid COVID-19.

And…

School Board Chairman Warren Jones called the current situation “truly new territory” and likened it to The Twilight Zone.

“Extraordinary times have the potential to bring out extraordinary people and extraordinary effort,” Warren said. “Even amidst this continually changing landscape, we have crafted an innovative home program that will continue to develop and deliver exceptional education to our students, and a big part of the solution are our teachers and staff.”

And…

Kerry Brady with the Duval Teachers Union said they have never experienced a situation like the current one, but they are confident thanks to the leadership of Duval County Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene. Brady said they will be ready for online learning and will maintain a high bar for their curriculum.

“Our work is not over,” Brady said. “We will have hiccups and bumps. But they will not be downfalls, because failure is not an option when we are instructing and working for the betterment of the educational learning community and that’s our students.”

And…

Dr. Greene said public education has a special role to play in these current times.

“We must re-engage our children with education and connection with the teachers and educators in their lives,” she said.

Greene said starting Monday, they will bring their classroom to the students via Duval Home Room.

She said almost all instruction will move to online platforms, which students in secondary education should already be familiar with from school. Teachers will be able to connect in real-time online and through teleconferencing.

“For elementary grade students, fully online education will be a challenge,” Greene said. “Not many elementary students are engaged in full-time virtual school. Therefore we understand there must be supplemented packets that support these students.”

And…

Greene said they will be using their bus contractors to deliver the educational packets to the students. The packets will include online and teleconference instruction. Those services will also be in place for their English language students and Exceptional Education Students.

They are also working to continue to provide mental health services through audio and video teleconferencing, thank to help from other community partners.

Additionally, beginning Monday, ‘grab-n-go lunch’ will still be offered at schools. They will also be able to deliver those meals daily.

Currently, they are surveying parents to understand their availability of technology in their homes. They are asking all parents to take the survey as soon as possible, but if they do not have access to the internet, they can call 904-348-5200.

They will be working to send laptops to high school and middle school students who need them over the weekend and then “fill the gap” for elementary students as quickly as possible. Over the weekend they will also be working to launch their website specifically geared toward Duval Home Room.

And…

“Over this week and through tomorrow we are fully orienting school leadership to the distance learning environment so they are fully prepared to support their teachers,” Greene said. “Friday we will engage with teachers and other school-based personnel to provide their orientation, training to this new way of delivering instruction.”

All of the curriculum links and meal details will be found on the website once it is launched.

By Friday of next week, their objective to have almost all, if not all, students “fully engaged in meaningful instruction”.

“We could have easily taken another week off, but the easy decision is not usually the best decision,” Greene said.

District Deeds Synopsis:

The last quote on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 from highly credentialed and highly qualified Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene says it all:

“We could have easily taken another week  off, but the easy decision is not usually the best decision.” – Dr. Diana Greene

Five days later, Monday, March 23, 2020, the FULLY GRADED/FULL ACCOUNTABILITY DCPS Distance Learning initiative was launched by Dr. Greene.

The following quote exposing the operational ignorance of incompetent, poorly credentialed, SDUSD Elementary School Superintendent Cindy Marten from the Voice of San Diego article, Friday, 3/13/20: “Everything We Know About School Closure Plans in San DiegoALSO says it all:

I asked Superintendent Cindy Marten why they made the decision not to promote more online learning through sending home the devices. She said because the district doesn’t have enough laptops for everyone, some students would get left out. She thought it would create more inequity by giving some, instead of all students, devices.

SIX WEEKS LATER on April 27th,  after a weak, illegitimate distance learning “Soft Launch”, ESS Marten and Trustee Tricky Dick Barrera will scam SDUSD Stakeholders with a watered down, illegitimate distance learning “Hard Launch”.

It is obvious that, to paraphrase Dr. Greene, ESS Cindy Marten and Tricky Dick Barrera took the “easy decison” to delay distance learning by SIX WEEKS!

On top of the six week delay, there is no way that this ridiculous SDUSD Soft/Hard Launch of distance learning by illegitimate ESS Marten comes close to the educationally, strategically and operationally sound distance learning deployed in the DCPS by Dr. Diana Greene to ALL Students.

The San Diego Education Association (SDEA – Teachers Union) Q & A  and MOU with the SDUSD and a ruling by the Governor clearly expose numerous ESS Marten and Tricky Dick Barerra  illegitimate distance learning scams and lies that betray ALL Students learning including:

  • No ESS Marten, Tricky Dick Barrera or SDUSD Transparency and Accountability:

No State testing according to California Governor Newsom

RESULT: The SDUSD will get billions of dollars…and continue to ask for millions more…without any educational performance measurements or standards.

  • No Teacher Accountability or Transparency regarding “method of delivery, or quality of instruction and services provided through the various distance learning modalities”:

9.3. It is recognized that staff is developing and experimenting with distance
learning lessons, instruction, and/or services during this pandemic. As
such, unit members shall not be evaluated or disciplined based on the
method of delivery, or quality of instruction and services provided through
the various distance learning modalities; this provision does not apply to
employee misconduct, and/or violations of policy or law.

RESULT:  Teachers will not be evaluated or disciplined for “method of delivery, or quality of instruction and services”…essentially there are no teaching standards.

Q. Will I be required to follow a prescribed schedule for distance learning and
related services?
A.Whether you are a classroom teacher, school nurse, counselor, SLP, psychologist, or any SDEA member this agreement ensures that you cannot be required to maintain a prescribed daily schedule.

RESULT: Teachers have no responsibility to provide any standard schedule for their undetermined distance learning efforts for Students or anyone else.

  • No Student Accountability or Participation required:

2.3. Students will be “held harmless,” and will not receive a lesser grade
than their grade after March 13, 2020, as a result of engaging in
distance learning. During the implementation of distance learning,
educator-assigned tasks and activities can only result in improving
academic and citizenship grades

RESULT: Students who are happy with their grades can DO NOTHING for the rest of the school year and get the same grade.  There are also no attendance standards.  This means the better Students get to do nothing and the struggling Students have to struggle even more trying to raise their grades…except now remotely with even fewer supports.

Overall the SDUSD Distance Learning initiative is a total scam!

SDUSD DISTANCE LEARNING SCAM

The SDUSD has decided to delay distance learning for six weeks in order to deliver unknown lessons to Students that cannot be failed and are not required to attend unknown class schedules set by Teachers held to no performance standards employed by a District that will continue to receive billions of dollars with no enforced district educational performance measurements.

Why did the SDUSD have to wait 6 weeks for this educational travesty…this horrible plan shouldn’t have taken more than a COUPLE HOURS to deploy!

This ongoing SDUSD Sandimic educational disaster deserves a continuing scoreboard comparing the competent and highly qualified Dr. Diana Greene and horribly incompetent, poorly credentialed ESS Cindy Marten.

This is why District Deeds is proud to unveil a Coronavirus Educational Sandimic Series titled “Waiting for Godot Duval”.

The premise of the series is based on the play by Samuel Beckett titled “Waiting for Godot” described  in Wikipedia as follows:

A play by Samuel Beckett, in which two characters, Vladimir (Didi) and Estragon (Gogo), wait for the arrival of someone named Godot who never arrives, and while waiting they engage in a variety of discussions…

In our version, “Waiting for Godot Duval”, District Deeds will be having a conversation with our readers “waiting” for the effective distance learning strategies and tactics being deployed in the DCPS by Dr. Diane Greene to “arrive” in the SDUSD educational disaster through incompetent ESS Cindy Marten.

“Waiting for Godot Duval” Spoiler Alert:

Effective Strategies will NEVER “arrive” in the SDUSD in under ESS Marten.

The first installment of “Waiting for Godot Duval” will be coming out this week…stay tuned!!!

Now for our Quote of the Week:

“The essential doesn’t change.” ― Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot

Have a great week – Stay Safe!!!
