As we have said on numerous posts in the past, District Deeds completely understands the need for strong Unions when faced with oppressive and toxic leadership as displayed by current Superintendent Cindy Marten and her crony Board of Education Trustees  Richard “Tricky Dick” Barrera, Kevin “Dismissal with Prejudice” Beiser, John “You Can’t Handle the Truth” Evans, Michael “Foggy Bottom” McQuary and Sharon “Flying By The Seat of Our Pants” Payne.

District Deeds also believes in the rights of each union member to have full transparency in how their union dues are spent and not be forced into paying for political campaigns that they oppose but that their union supports.

We have spoken to thousands of SDUSD Union members over the last 15 years in the San Diego Unified School District that strongly support their Union but some also strongly disagree with their union’s choice of political candidates.

In the spirit of the District Deeds commitment to and support of full transparency in publicly funded organizations we have decided to give our readers some information regarding the Janus vs AFSCME case and a tool to our Teacher readers to allow them to decide the best option for them.

Here is a video by the Mackinaw Center for Public Policy titled “Janus vs AFSCME – A Short Explainer” that helps explain the case:

“Fair Share Fees” are mentioned as $600 per year in Illinois while in the SDUSD the fees can be as high as $1,000 per year.

We checked the SDEA website for information on how apply but when we searched for “Drop Process” we got the following blank page:

When we searched for “Union Membership Drop Process” on the SDUSD website, we got this:

We do not know and prefer not to speculate why SDEA Leadership and SDUSD Trustees have not posted the Drop Process on their respective websites.

To address the information gap we reached out to our Teacher readers and was able to acquire the SDEA Drop Process instructions sheet.

Here it is:

Here is the PDF if you want to print it out: SDEA Drop Process

We will be searching the other SDUSD Public Union websites for their “Drop Process” but meanwhile, if any of our Public Union readers want to send us a copy, we will post it for all your members.

For future reference, we have posted the SDEA document on our District Deeds “Complaint Forms” page .

We ALL need to keep our public entities transparent and we ALL have the right to fund or not fund political campaigns and NOT be forced to support corrupt candidates.

Maybe having SDEA and other SDUSD Public Union members “Drop” will send a clear message to Union leadership that supporting totally incompetent Board of Education trustees and equally incompetent Superintendent Cindy Marten is NOT OK.

At the very least, maybe the opt outs will tighten the campaign money flow to those corrupt Board of Education Trustees and give us a chance to get Marten fired and finally recover from this educational, administrative, financial and human resource disaster.

Remember…to coin a phrase…when fighting against San Diego Unified Trustee and Superintendent corruption and incompetence

TOGETHER WE ALL ARE STRONGER!!!
