How San Diego City Council Members Voted on SDUSD Board of Education Term Limits and Sub Districts back on March 21, 2017

In a major step towards true Board of Education representation for San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) communities and to prevent the current crony SDUSD Board of Education disaster from happening again, the San Diego County Grand Jury recommended that the San Diego City Council take the following actions in the Grand Jury report released today titled San Diego Unified School District School Board Elections – Time For A Change :

The 2016/2017 San Diego County Grand Jury recommends that the San Diego City Council:

17-28: Consider placing a measure on a future ballot to allow the voters to decide whether to amend the San Diego City Charter to change the election process for the San Diego Unified School District School Board Elections, allowing only citizens in their sub-districts to elect representation directly from their sub-district.

17-29: Consider placing a measure on a future ballot to allow the voters to decide whether to amend the San Diego City Charter to allow a San Diego Unified School District board candidate who receives a majority of the votes in their sub-district during the primary election be considered elected.

17-30: Consider placing a measure on a future ballot to allow the voters to decide whether to amend the San Diego City Charter to limit the number of terms San Diego Unified School District School Board Trustees can serve.

As we posted back on March 23, 2017 in “San Diego City Council “Voters Rights” Democrats Vote Against San Diego Unified Community “Voters Rights” the San Diego City Council Democratic Members Barbara Bry, Chris Ward, Myrtle Cole, David Alavarez and Georgette Gomez, with the prompting of crony SDUSD Trustees Richard Barrera and John Lee Evans, DENIED a request for City of San Diego staff to even REVIEW these very same election recommendations.

We request our readers to do again today what we urged them to do at the time:

District Deeds believes that Trustees Richard Barrera and John Lee Evans, through their City Council testimony, have just made the perfect argument for why both “Term Limits” and “Voting by District” are desperately needed in the SDUSD.

District Deeds urges all SDUSD Stakeholders and Taxpayers to forward the link to this blog post to your City Councilmember, especially the “No” vote individuals, and ask them to reconsider their decision on “Term Limits” and “Voting by District” for the SDUSD.

More to come…stay tuned to District Deeds for updates!!!
