San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) Students, Teachers and Staff have SUFFERED from the EXTREME HEAT in this FIRST WEEK of school AFTER Labor Day.  The HOT CLASSROOMS AND COMMON AREAS have severely diminished the ability of Teachers to teach and Students to learn in ALL schools.

CINDY MARTEN AND THE SDUSD HAS REFUSED to close ANY schools despite the HORRENDOUS HEAT and UNSAFE HEALTH CONDITIONS FOR EVERYONE at School Sites…ESPECIALLY the 5 and 6 year olds!

There are reports of young Students being sent to the hospital for HEAT STROKE and Teachers being treated by medics for HEAT EXHAUSTION!

Special Needs Students with medications and sensitivities that create reactions to EXTREME HEAT are being put at RISK!

One parent called it CHILD ABUSE! 

District Deeds calls it typical insecure Cindy Marten POOR JUDGEMENT.  Marten is DANGEROUS.

Last week on August 29th, the day the SDUSD will START SCHOOL NEXT YEAR BEFORE LABOR DAY…the temperature PEAKED at 91°!  In the classrooms it was at least 101°.

This week the temperatures in the SDUSD PEAKED at 102°!  In the classrooms it was at least 112°.

Despite the fact that the Cindy Marten Profile on the SDUSD website says that “She believes that there are NO EXCUSES when it comes to providing children with the very best conditions that will enable them to become confident, successful learners…”, NEXT YEAR the Marten version of “very best conditions” will manifest itself in DOUBLING the PAIN AND SUFFERING for ALL School Site Teachers, Staff and Students AND SEVERLY REDUCING LEARNING!

District Deeds has called Marten’s ill conceived, poorly planned Student and Site Staff IMPENDING HEALTH DISASTER the “CINDY MARTEN CALENDAR CURSE”…the Pre-Labor Day 2016/17 Calendar Change!

Her Profile was RIGHT…Marten HAS NO EXCUSES FOR THIS PLAN!

According to a San Diego 7 News Report named “Students: Heat in Classrooms Is ‘Unbearable’“:

“In the San Diego Unified School District, 68 schools have AC in all instructional rooms, according to a district official.

The rest of the district is made up of 118 schools with air conditioning in 50 to 99 percent of the instructional rooms. Forty-seven schools have AC in less than half of the instructional rooms and 37 schools have no air-conditioned classrooms that are used for instruction, according to the district.”

Generally NO Common Areas like School Site Offices and Lunch Areas have air-conditioning!

Marten JAMMED THE PRE-LABOR DAY CALENDAR CHANGE DOWN THE THROATS of ALL SDUSD Stakeholders with the supporting YES VOTES of Trustees Grand Jury Accused/Illegal Fundraiser Queen Marne Foster, Foster “Tuition” Donor John Lee Evans and Foster Election Contributor Richard Barrera.

Through a STROKE (THANKFULLY NOT a HEAT stroke) of luck…or maybe a savvy political decision, Trustee Kevin Beiser was ABSENT from the Board Meeting and AVOIDED the vote and the controversy.

The ONLY SDUSD Trustee who LISTENED to the Stakeholders and voted NO against the Calendar Change was new Trustee Mike McQuary.

So instead of how your kids OR their Teachers and Site Staff may have enjoyed last week staying cool…

Going for a swim in the ocean or a pool…

Watching a movie in an air conditioned theater…

Sipping a cool beverage and sitting in the shade on your patio with friends…

Shopping for school supplies and clothes in an air-conditioned store…

Enjoying an “end of Summer” vacation and taking advantage of the long Labor Day Weekend to get ready for school…

NEXT YEAR SDUSD Students, Teachers and Staff will be sitting and sweating in a sweltering in a 101 – 116 degree school site classroom or office FOR AN EXTRA WEEK.

We are SURE Cindy Marten and her Board of Education “Yes” Voters will be thinking of all of you in their air conditioned offices at the Education Center on Normal Street.

REMEMBER!  The Board DENIED starting before Labor day THIS school year in December as we describe here:  UPDATE: SDUSD School Calendar Change – CONGRATULATIONS! 8/31 School Start Date Pushed Off 1 Year!

The Board CAN VOTE AGAIN THIS YEAR to CHANGE the SDUSD Start Date to Post Labor Day IF THEY WANT TO.
