Since this January we have focused on our 2023 New Year Resolution of San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) HAT Trick of Honesty, Accountability and Transparency through our Uniform Complaint Handbook (UCH).  Our UCH provides definitions, strategies and actions that SDUSD Stakeholders can take to expose the abuse, neglect and incompetence suffered by their children at the hands of the SDUSD.

We decided to lead off 2023 in this fashion because it is very difficult for layman SDUSD Stakeholders (i.e.: Non-employees) to recognize violations of federal and state mandated public rights/trust without a clear definition of what constitutes that SDUSD public education/service betrayal.

Over that period we have intentionally avoided making any definitive assessments of the “Post Marten” administration of new Superintendent Lamont Jackson and his Senior Staff/Administration appointees.

That stategy is now going to be adjusted.

Beginning this week and continuing over the next two weeks we will be performing an assessment using each of our HAT Trick component to evaluate the new administration progress, or lack thereof, towards those ideals.  We will use local and national news articles regarding SDUSD issues/incidents to frame our assessment and conclusions.  We will also compare the current SDUSD Senior Leadership strategies with the previous Marten leadership disaster to look for both positive progress and digression.

The core formula that drives this effort is very simple:

The core conclusion that must be accepted by ALL SDUSD Stakeholders is that without the HAT Trick components, there can be no REAL trust in how well our children are being taught despite the millions of dollars of Propaganda and Legal defenses that the SDUSD uses to frame their “false positive” “Trust” narrative.

To address the current SDUSD “Trust” narrative status we will be using numerous articles over the next few weeks to accomplish that goal.

This week, beginning with HONESTY, here are supporting articles that expose that SDUSD “Trust” component with the current SDUSD Leadership:

DDTIP:  Many publications, and especially the SDUSD Propaganda Department, delete the articles/press releases we refer to in our blog.  To counter that strategy each week we will list articles like the ones above with an internet archive link from the Wayback Machine (WM) site so that you can always access the articles we post.

SDUSD HONESTY

Here is the definition of “honesty” from Dictionary.com

The definition of HONESTY is pretty straightforward and is tempered by the definition of the antonym “LYING”:

Lying takes many forms.  Here are the 7 types of lies:

Over the past 20+ years of exposure to the SDUSD version of the truth, and especially in the past 9 years of writing this blog, we have uncovered virtually every form of lying in the SDUSD.

The first example is the following quote from KPBS having Superintendent Lamont Jackson lie to the press and the public on Thursday, December 1, 2022 about the “cybersecurity incident” that occurrred in October, 2022:

District Superintendent Lamont Jackson on Thursday sent a letter to his staff and families of students attending SDUSD campuses to apprise them of what he described as a “cybersecurity incident.”

“After learning of this incident, we acted swiftly to take steps to secure our network, to launch an investigation and to prevent any disruptions to (information technology) operations,” Jackson wrote. “We also notified law enforcement and engaged cybersecurity professionals to assist.”

He then embellished that lie with the following:

Though SDUSD officials did not reveal if the breach may have resulted in the misappropriation of any sensitive data or involved any ransom demands, Jackson stated that all the district’s “critical systems continue to be operational, and the incident has not impacted the safety and emergency mechanisms in place at schools and offices.”

La Jolla Light/San Diego Union Tribune article on May 20, 2023 titled “San Diego Unified students’ medical data was compromised in the October, 2022 cybersecurity breach, school district says” contains the key quote from from the SDUSD Propaganda Department:

An October data breach of the San Diego Unified School District’s network involved students’ medical information, the district told families in a letter this month.

and then…

District spokeswoman Maureen Magee said the investigation is continuing and that the district is working to notify those affected as it identifies them.

The district did not respond to questions about how many students had been affected, whether staff data also may have been compromised and how the security measures have been enhanced.

But wait, even after SEVEN MONTHS of data breach silence, that story wasn’t accurate either.  Another article titled “San Diego Unified cybersecurity breach affected more people and sensitive data than previously known” regarding this issue came out over two weeks later on June 3, 2023 with this quote:

The San Diego Unified School District says a data breach last fall affected more people and more types of personal data than previously acknowledged.

In addition to students’ medical information, the breach in October affected current and former employees’ sensitive personal data, including Social Security numbers, direct-deposit account information, medical information and more, Dennis Monahan, the district’s executive director of risk services, said the evening of June 2.

Taking information from the articles listed above, here are the types of lies used by the SDUSD Propaganda department on just this one serious issue:

Lie by Omission

The SDUSD and Suoerintendent Lamont Jackson refused to provide the full truth to all SDUSD Stakeholders from October, 2022 to May, 2023. It took SEVEN MONTHS to finally let all the SDUSD Stakeholders know what happened and we STILL do not know if the FULL truth was told, what hasn’t yet been revealed and exactly what records were compromised.

Lie by Minimization

The minimal information shared by the corrupt SDUSD Propaganda Department in October, 2022 though May, 2023 allowed the SDUSD to deceive both community and SDUSD staff of the impact of their personal information being stolen and also gave the new Lamont Jackson administration breathing room to avoid a mismanagement scandal almost until the 2021/2023 school was over.

Lie by Fabrication

The first article published by KPBS on December mentioned that “SDUSD officials did not reveal if the breach may have resulted in the misappropriation of any sensitive data” when they ALREADY KNEW that it did.  This “Lie by Fabrication” was supported by NOT sharing the whole story – a lie by ommission.  According to the PsychCentral website, “lying by ommission” is defined as:

Lying by omission allows the liar to manipulate the situation to their advantage not revealing the truth because they werent asked a question directly pertaining to the truth.

We do not know if Jackson is capable enough to know what a data breach actually is, but even giving Jackson the benefit of the doubt, there was “Radio Silence” on this cyber attack for a full SEVEN MONTHS.  In fact, SDUSD Stakeholders STILL do not know the whole story.

District Deeds “Honesty” Comparison:

Marten vs Jackson Superintendent Administrations

In our estimation the there are some “Similarities” and “Differences” between the Marten and Jackson administrations in regard to the “HONESTY” HAT Trick component.

SIMILARITIES

  • Many of the “Usual Suspects” are still spreading the Propaganda lies. The Propaganda Department shuts down investigations with “no comment” with vey little pushback from local journalists.
  • The damage done to those affected Stakeholders, just in case they decide to sue for damages from the data breach, is covered completely by the multimillion dollar legal department, funded by taxpayer dollars, even when lying by omission and neglecting to inform the affected Stakeholders for a full 7 month period and longer.
  • The current Jackson “puppet” only speaks and acts when and how he is directed by the Propaganda/Legal/Barrera cabal.  Honesty is NOT part of his puppet programming.
  • That firewall of Propaganda and Legal fully protects the weak senior SDUSD leadership from succumbing to any local pressure for Honesty by the Press, Teachers, Staff or families negatively affected.  It is ironic(?) that the individuals working for the SDUSD whose data was stolen just agreed to a historic 10% raise just before most of the Data Breach truth came out that negatively impacted those same individuals.
  • With as huge of a data breach as this was and as weak as the current Superintedent is, the local investigative reporting still allowed them to drag out this data disaster “investigation” and avoidance of the truth into the “Safe Zone” end of school year where the majority of Parents are shutting down for ALL SDUSD related issues.  This strategy fits very nicely within the standard SDUSD risk/honesty avoidance timetable.

DIFFERENCES

  • The primary difference in the Marten vs Jackson administrations is the obvious weakness of Jackson to operate independently from his Legal, Propaganda and School Board rulers.  In a strange way, that contains overt lies, that were a hallmark of Marten, and allows Jackson, with his gross incompetence, to simplty regurgitate only those things that have been triple stamped for approval by those individuals.
  • Despite all of her despicable traits, Marten was a leader (a horrible, self serving one) and Jackson is just a weak follower…just like he has been through his whole career.   He is clearly a Trustee Barrera puppet and will do or say absolutely anything to keep the job and the paycheck he is woefully underqualified to recieve.  One could say that it is just Barrera lying out of Jackson’s mouth.
  • Tied to the previous bullet, Marten LOVED the press because she knew how to successfully ingratiate herself with/manipulate them and also LOVED being a mini-celebrity.  Jackson only deals with the press when he is absolutely required to do so.

Jackson’s role under puppeteer Barrera is threefold:

  1. Most of the time he serves as the “crying prop” puppet when a difficult issue is addressed.
  2. Serves as a Charley McCarthy dummy to the Barrera/Propaganda/Legal puppeteers.
  3. Refers the press to other, more experienced, intelligent, senior staff for quotes whenever possible.

That, unfortunately, is the scope and scale of HONESTY in the Superintendent puppet position for the SDUSD that we are paying for as illustrated below by Transparent California:

That is much more than the Charley McCarthy puppet ever made from Edgar Bergen!

Obviously Barrera is getting his money’s worth…sadly none of the actual victims of their corruption are not.

Next week we will assessing the ACCOUNTABILITY component of the SDUSD HAT Trick including comparisons and examples of where the current SDUSD Senior Leadership appears to be headed in taking responsibility for their actions.

And remember the 2023 resolution for ALL San Diego Unified School District Stakeholders especially for ALL SDUSD Employees…
