Another week, another disastrous San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) educational outcome for students and families.

It is clear that the total leadership incompetence, inexperience and corruption of Superintendent Marten, Trustee Tricky Dick Barrera and Trustee Whitehurst Payne continues.

This Sunday Reads highlights an article from the San Diego Union Tribune (SDUT) by Ms. Kristen Taketa that describes initiatives from the virtual SDUSD 2020 State of the District (SOTD).  After the District Deeds analysis of the 2020 SOTD, we provide our Readers the opportunity to tell Marten, Tricky Dick and the rest of the SDUSD corrupt leadership: “What ONE WORD describes the 2020 State Of the San Diego Unified School District?” since ALL COMMENTS ARE TURNED OFF on the YouTube Virtual 2020 SOTD.

We have highlighted the most SDUSD relevant excerpts from the SDUT article below but strongly urge our readers to click on the title and read the full article for themselves.

BE WELL…TAKE COVID 19 PRECAUTIONS

San Diego Unified floats requests to Biden administration in State of District address

District asks Biden to give schools $350 billion in COVID aid and fully fund special education while reinstating national teacher corps program

By Kristen Taketa

QUOTES FROM ARTICLE:

San Diego Unified Superintendent Cindy Marten released a proposed education plan for president-elect Joe Biden Tuesday during her annual State of the District address.

Marten called for increased federal funding for schools and for a national teacher corps program to train more teachers to work in low-income schools.

She suggested the incoming Biden Administration provide $350 billion in COVID-19 aid to schools, fully fund special education — something the federal government has never done — triple Title I funding for schools that serve low-income students, and provide more funding for military students. The new administration also should ensure that all 3- and 4-year-olds have access to quality preschool, Marten said.

And…

Marten warned that the pandemic is causing severe learning losses because of school shutdowns. A national recovery plan with funding for schools is needed to reverse those losses, she said.

California public schools were spared from state budget cuts this school year, but there is no such guarantee for next year.

And…

Marten said San Diego is providing more daily, “live” instruction time than other California districts. San Diego Unified schools are providing three hours of live instruction each day during distance learning.

Marten and School Board President John Lee Evans said students are suffering losses due to school closures, but they didn’t say how much learning loss is happening among San Diego students. The district has not yet released data about students’ academic progress during this school year.

Evans said the plan is still for San Diego Unified to reopen on Jan. 4 for elementary students and on Jan. 25 for middle and high school students. But the reopening could be postponed if San Diego County does not improve its COVID-19 rates quickly enough to get out and stay out of the purple tier.

DISTRICT DEEDS SYNOPSIS AND COMMENTARY:

Another year, another set of misrepresentations and damaging propaganda from incompetent SDUSD Supt. Cindy Marten and her band of Trustee liars led by Richard “Tricky Dick” Barrera in the annual SDUSD “State of the District” (SOTD) presentation. This year the SOTD was virtual and broadcast on YouTube.

From the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “virtual” is defined as follows:

The virtual 2020 SDUSD SODT came in three ACTUAL LIE categories: Virtual facts, Virtual tributes and Virtual descriptions of the District.

The despicable lies were supplemented by using an unelected by ALL VOTERS SDUSD “Student Trustee” to pretend that the SDUSD is doing a good job.

Could this embarrassing manipulation of the truth by Marten and her Trustee cronies using a Student be considered child abuse?

The first Actual SOTD Lie Category, “virtual facts” presented by the corrupt SDUSD leadership, was spearheaded by the claim by Marten in the featured San Diego Union Tribune article that “San Diego is providing more daily, “live” instruction time than other California districts.”

Like almost all of the “accomplishments” propaganda spewed in the SOTD, what appears on the surface to be true is not reality.

The daily “live” instruction claim by Marten was profiled in an article from Edsource titled “Length of live teaching varies in California even in the same grade level and same district

In that article the author lauded the SDUSD by saying :

“San Diego Unified is at the high end, requiring 180 minutes of live or synchronous instruction for all its 121,000 students, regardless of grade level.”

Sounds GREAT..right?

WRONG!

Like every other accomplishment spewed in the SODT, the actual truth proves it is just another lie.

Later in the article the following disclaimer was provided:

“But it’s difficult to make a clear comparison of instructional time in one district with another. Some like San Diego Unified use a broad definition of live or synchronous instruction by teachers that includes online activities such as small group work or collaborating on assignments. Others like San Juan Unified define live instruction time only as educators teaching to the whole class via Zoom.”

In other words, it APPEARS like the SDUSD has the longest instruction time, but the REALITY is that there is ZERO instructional time actually required when using the standard set by San Juan Unified!

This is not a “virtual” lie by Marten…it is an ACTUAL lie by Marten.  Every other 2020 vision accomplishment claim by Marten, Tricky Dick, Empty Suit Evans and the rest fits that disingenuous appearance vs reality model.

To top it off, Marten, who has proven to be a walking, talking financial mismanagement disaster with multiple budget deficits and horrible educational results, had the temerity to use the $1.2 billion SDUSD budgeting disaster as a model for the new President-Elect Biden $350 BILLION administration educational budget.

Marten is obviously #delusional.

The second SOTD lie category is “Virtual Tributes”.

Marten and all of the board members dribbled all over themselves spewing the false  “legacy” of departing Trustee John “Empty Suit” Evans”

To refresh our Readers memory, one last time for Evans, here is the definition for “Empty Suit”:

During the past seven years of District Deeds, the only thing that Evans stood out for is not being able to face the truth.

We covered the bland, nondescript Evans in his worst iterations in a March 9, 2017 post titled San Diego Unified Trustee Psychologist Evans: You Can’t Handle the Arroyo Paseo Charter High School Truth! (VIDEO):

We leave it up to Trustee Psychologist Evans,in private practice, working with children, adolescents and adults, to determine what disorder would cause a highly educated, privileged, physician to deny obvious facts presented honestly by some of the most vulnerable students in the SDUSD, avoid his obvious responsibility to maintain those students “life raft”, and then insult a dedicated SDUSD Stakeholder, Volunteer, and Taxpayer who further explained those facts to him with the simplest words possible:

You failed them. You failed them. You failed them, not this school.  You failed them.  – Mrs. Sally Smith

District Deeds has 3 suggestions for the eminent “doctor”:

Physician, heal thyself!

Look in the Mirror and take responsibility – You DID fail them!

Fire Supt. Cindy Marten the source of your disorder!

___

Obviously Evans also has a HUGE problem with telling the truth and the only legacy he leaves in the SDUSD is the betrayal “some of the most vulnerable students in the SDUSD”.

District Deeds has one last tribute to Evans:

Good Riddance Empty Suit!

The third, and final, SOTD lie category is “Virtual descriptions of the District”.

The primary propaganda buzzword for the incompetent and corrupt SDUSD Supt. Marten and her cronies was the ridiculous “#unstoppable”.  A good article from the Voice of San Diego by Will Huntsberry titled Even With Schools Closed, State of District ‘Unstoppable’ regarding the SOTD stated:

But for a school district where traditional education has literally stopped, Marten chose quite the adjective. Some other local school districts have found a way to get students back in the classroom part time. Private day camps – for those who can afford them – have sprung up to replace in-person learningbecause the wheels of San Diego Unified have stopped turning.

The virtual #unstoppable lie about the miserable Covid 19 performance of Marten and the SDUSD educational operation is obviously proven by the following ACTUAL miserable Marten Covid 19 Pandemic “strategies” evidence:

  • ZERO SDUSD Standards Based Grading Plan Transparency, Accountability and Community Collaboration
  • ZERO SDUSD 2020/21 Reopening Plan Transparency and Community Collaboration
  • ZERO Operational Budget Transparency used to hide TOTAL Operational Budget Mismanagement.
  • ZERO Transparency of SDUSD performance BEFORE and DURING the Coronavirus Pandemic.
  • ZERO Accountability for SDUSD LACK of performance since BEFORE and DURING the Coronavirus Pandemic.
  • Phase 1 Educational Supports denied to tens of thousands of the most disadvantaged Students
  • OPTIONAL Boot Camp Professional Development for Teachers – FAIL.
  • Individualized “disadvantaged Student” supports with NO Equity Rules, Standards or Tracking.
  • Every Cluster, School, Principal, Teacher and Student for themselves “custom” school site “strategy” by incompetent Supt. Marten creating gross inequities from classroom to classroom.
  • Only 3 hours per day vs 5 hours per day of live teaching.
  • Only 3 periods per day vs 5 periods per day of live teaching.
  • No Teacher Evaluations.
  • No Smarter Balanced tests in Math and English language arts.
  • No California Science Test
  • No Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP)
  • Minimal California (ELPAC) for English learners
  • Minimal California School Dashboard
  • Dysfunctional Standards Based Grading
  • Disorganized Four Phase School Reopening Scam/Plan

To top it all off, even past the The WORST part of the Virtual facts, Virtual tributes and Virtual descriptions of the District, the VOICE of SDUSD Stakeholders has been intentionally DENIED!.

The SDUSD made SDUSD Stakeholders stomach the 1 hour, 41 minute and 35 second SODT Propagandafest, “#unstoppable” Marten and the Board of Education and then DENIED any “Comments” on the YouTube SOTD presentation:

In the highlighted yellow box in the screen shot above, “COMMENTS ARE TURNED OFF”!

District Deeds could NOT allow this to happen to “turned off” SDUSD Stakeholders!

To fight the attempts of Marten and the Board to spew lies and misinformation with no repercussions, District Deeds used ipetitions.com to create a special San Diego Unified School District 2020 State of the District Stakeholder Comments page titled “What ONE WORD describes the 2020 State Of the San Diego Unified School District?”

Here is a screen shot of the page:

We encourage ALL SDUSD Stakeholders to have your voices heard on the current SDUSD “2020 State of the District”.  As the petition says:

This Petition allows all SDUSD Stakeholders to post their “One Word” response (and any other additional comments) to the You Tube 2020 SDUSD State of the District.
