The San Diego Unified School District is in the middle of a $124 million dollar budget deficit crisis caused by gross financial mismanagement of incompetent Superintendent Cindy Marten and her Board of Education enablers – Richard Barrera, Kevin Beiser, John Evans, Mike McQuary and Sharon Payne.
The solution?
School Site budget experts are being fired because the incompetent Marten can’t balance HER OWN SDUSD BUDGET!!!
Only in the dysfunctional world of SDUSD Supt. Cindy Marten could this seem logical.
To address the HISTORIC budget deficit crisis, District Deeds has learned that Supt. Cindy “The Genius” Marten and her crony inner circle at the Central Office, have decided to PINK SLIP and DEMOTE ALL the budget and financial oversight support at ALL SDUSD Schools.
In other words, any Aide who survives the Marten Pink Slip doesn’t get to keep the job they earned though years (sometimes decades) of dedicated service over and above their assigned duties, they get DEMOTED to a lower pay grade and lose thousands of dollars and benefits for their families.
Would you threaten to fire a Surgeon before your life saving operation?
Would you threaten to fire a First Responder in the middle of an emergency?
Would you threaten to fire a Police Officer in the middle of a bank robbery?
Apparently the inept San Diego Unified School District Superintendent Cindy Marten would!
The job descriptions of “Pink Slipped” Supervising Administrative Aides and Administrative Aides lists upwards of 10 responsibilities including directing and training office staff and pupils and acquiring supplies equipment and services.
However the biggest and most important responsibility of these Administrative Aides at each of the SDUSD School Sites are acting as the Budget:
-
Surgeon that dissects each expenditure and makes sure it is classified and charged correctly per the Board Approved Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) according to Federal and State laws.
-
First Responders that analyze supply, equipment and service expenditures daily and inform the Principal and School Site Council of required budget realignments within legal and audit protocols.
-
Police Officers that protect against robbing the Budget “bank” to fund inappropriate or misclassified school site activities.
These “Keepers of the Budget” provide the Principal and Staff an on site expert for planning, maintaining and predicting requirements needed for balancing each school site budget daily, weekly, monthly and annually.
District Deeds has worked on over 20 years of budgets with these exceptional employees and it has been obvious in all those years that they are the REAL power and financial knowledge behind the Principal. In many cases, newly appointed and experienced Principals alike had no clue how to analyze or adjust the budget or plan the SPSA without the help of the Aide.
Because Marten has replaced over 100 principals in 3 years, many with virtually NO Principal or leadership experience (like Marten herself), elimination of these Aides will create both a management and financial disaster at those school sites in the future.
Late January through March is the most stressful period for these dedicated employees.
On top of all the many duties described on the job descriptions above, these Aides are given less than 2 weeks by financial wizard Cindy Marten to create a budget for thousands of site expenditures worth hundreds of thousands (in some cases millions) of dollars.
They then spend the next six weeks helping the Principal actually create the SPSA by tying the budget to customized strategies for the neediest students (Economically Disadvantaged, English Learners, Homeless Youth, etc) created and approved by school site Stakeholders including the SSC, Governance, ELAC and the community.
So this year, on top of all that stress and responsibility, Marten has threatened their livelihood and their security in the middle of this financial crisis with a Pink Slip.
And Marten continues her abuse and victimization of the weak…those who don’t have a multimillion dollar election and influence peddling machine behind them like the neediest students (Economically Disadvantaged, English Learners, Homeless Youth, etc) and Classified Staff (Custodians, School Site Aides)
As per her typically dysfunctional leadership and during a time when the SDUSD Stakeholders really need ALL the skills and dedication of these school site experts, the horribly inept Marten threatens, demoralizes and distracts these critical staff members at the worst possible time.
With this action Marten has proved that she is obviously a horrible leader that has no clue how to motivate, manage or even understand the challenges and contributions of her SDUSD employees.
Is it any wonder that many of these Aides with collectively hundreds of years of experience are now looking for new jobs OUTSIDE the SDUSD?
Maybe they will go to the Charter Schools that the current SDUSD Students are fleeing to…away from this Marten and Board of Education management disaster…we hear their enrollment is booming.
Just another example of the “Brain Drain” brought on by one of the worst school superintendents in the United States…Cindy Marten.
Marten Needs A Pink Slip…For Herself!
