In an email obtained by District Deeds from March, 2011, BEFORE Marne Foster was elected as Trustee to the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD), Foster threatened Principal Mitzi Lizarraga with the SAME tactic her supporters claim she is receiving from the press now!
Here is the email exchange between Marne Foster and Principal Lizarraga:
In this email that discussed a suspension of her son, Marne Foster threatened Principal Lizarraga with the following statement:
That’s right. Marne Foster said that she would:
“TRY THIS CASE IN THE MEDIA”!!!!!
The San Diego Voice and Viewpoint recently posted an editorial titled “The Lynching of School Board Trustee Marne Foster” where they compared the treatment of Foster by the media and by others as a “lynching” using the following definition:
The word “lynching” is defined as the act of “putting to death by hanging, by mob action and without legal authority.”
OBVIOUSLY Foster DID NOT tell the Voice and Viewpoint of her threat to Principal Mitzi Lizarraga and they should NOT be blamed for Foster NOT being honest with them about what tactics she was willing to use to publicly smear a nationally renowned African American Principal that was just trying to follow SDUSD policy.
BUT-
Since Marne Foster threatened Principal Lizarraga with the EXACT method…TO BE TRIED BY THE MEDIA WITHOUT DUE PROCESS…are they willing to stand behind Principal Lizarraga and WRITE AN EDITORIAL to publicly indict Marne Foster for threatening to do the same thing?
There should NOT be a DOUBLE STANDARD…one for Marne Foster and one for everyone else.
To be consistent with the current Voice and Viewpoint Editorial headline we believe it should be titled:
“The Lynching of Principal Mitzi Lizarraga” – – – – -by Marne Foster
One last note…
District Deeds AGREES with Voice and Viewpoint that Superintendent Cindy Marten should be held EQUALLY as accountable for her improper actions and support. The Editorial is COMPLETELY right that nothing operationally could be done without Martens’ improper operational assistance.
BOTTOM LINE:
BOTH Foster AND Marten should resign for the good of all the Students in the SDUSD

The individual who brought us this clown/puppet show is Richard Barrera.
He worked to elect Marne Foster and talked three other board members into choosing Cindy Marten, when only Scott Barnett favored her.
If Evans, Beiser or McQuary had any backbone, they could unite to fire incompetent Cindy Marten.
Next time, bid the superintendent position and give all “qualified” applicants an opportunity.
Great article, Frank.

Culture of fear and intimidation is extremely stressful and exhausting for principals and administrators. Many retire early or leave the district if they can. This culture ultimately impacts school community and quality of student learning. Integrity and inspirational leadership have left SDUSD. Sad.
