District Deeds Introduction

Last week, as part of our District Deeds 2023 resolution for the SDUSD Honesty, Accountability, and Transparency “HAT Trick” resolution, we featured the SDUSD Summer Academic Program (SAP) initiative.  In that post “Dishonest, Unaccountable, Opaque – The SDUSD Summer Academic Program just making a SAP of all SDUSD Stakeholders!” we asked the SDUSD 12 HAT Trick questions insisting that they include the following 10 characteristics:

NEWS ITEM QUOTES – DISTRICT DEEDS NOTES

We published that post last Sunday, July 30, 2023 at 3:12 pm PT and approximately 14 hours later, on July 31, 2023 at 5:00 am PT, the first article regarding the efficacy of the SDUSD SAP initiative was published in the San Diego Union Tribune (SDUT) titled “Fewer students are enrolled in San Diego Unified’s summer enrichment — but that was intentional, officials say“.

Other “Level Up” articles were also posted relating to the subject.

We could find nothing as of today, August 6, 2023 regarding the SAP on the following local news outlets:

For today’s post we will go through the following questions we asked last week and see how many of them were answered by the crack local investigative journalists that cover the SDUSD.

Here are each of the questions we asked and the scores for both the SDUSD and the local investigative journalism on each:

SDUSD SAP HONESTY

1. What is the full list of performance metrics deployed by the SDUSD for both Teachers and Students in its SAP?                                                                    Answer:  Nothing from the SDUSD or any local “Journalists”

“Facts” provided by Local “Investigative” Journalists

Only the Dan Diego Union Tribune published a shallow depth story about the results of the SDUSD SAP.  As shown above, only TWO other news sources even referred to the SDUSD SAP and the SIX other major new sources completely neglected to cover this story. Here are the miniscule “facts” regarding the SAP and a few more covering the educationally untrackable summer camp “enrichment” provided in that SDUT article:

Those approximate 27,500 students represent about 28.1% of the total 97,968 students currently enrolled in the SDUSD.

ZERO breakdown or reporting on:

  1. What was the SAP Attendance rate
  2. What was the SAP drop out rate
  3. What was the class pass rate by subject, school site, teacher

ZERO breakdown or reporting on:

  1. What is the 9-12 performance on all SAP classes deployed by host/feeder school site, class, teacher since no data was provided for grades 9-12.
  2. What is the K-8 Reading and Math scores gain/loss by host/feeder school site, class, teacher

ZERO breakdown or reporting on:

  1. How much of the $13 million was spent on academic programs vs enrichment programs?
  2. How much of the $13 million was provided by the “state grant” and how much from the SDUSD budget?

ZERO breakdown or reporting on:

  1. What was the financial “payoff” listed by non-profit through the SDUSD grant to crony non-profits that fully support the corrupt, financially incompetent SDUSD in elections and beyond?

FINAL DISTRICT DEEDS CONCLUSION

One week later and the SDUSD has NOT answered even ONE of the initial TWELVE questions from our post last week.  In act, the SDUSD has prompted another EIGHT questions about the opaque “Level Up” program.

Unfortunately and as usual, the local press has ignored both interpretive and investigative journalism and allowed the SDUSD to completely obscure the annual “Level Up” summer scam.  They have either totally ignored the summer scam or just “mailed in” softball questions and accepted the low value “facts” from the cardboard SDUSD spokesperson as their local definition of “journalism“.

SAN DIEGO JOURNALISTS:

YOU CAN DO BETTER!!!!

YOU MUST DO BETTER!!!!

The SDUSD Stakeholders, Taxpayers, Families and ESPECIALLY the STUDENTS are depending on you to step up and FORCE the corrupt SDUSD Senior Leadership and Board of Education to FULLY share ALL the SDUSD educational performance facts with “We the People”!

WE KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!

WE ARE BEHIND YOU 100%!

LET’S GO TO WORK ON THIS TOGETHER!!!

As someone who has spent a lot of her career as an investigative reporter, I’ll confess that a frustration of mine has always been that so much investigative journalism involves a dissection of events in the past. – Jill Abramson
