District Deeds Introduction
Over the past couple years the SDUSD has come up with two summer propaganda events called the “Summer Academic Program” (SAP) and “Level Up Enrichment Opportunities” (LU). These most recent summer programs are the descendants of the ridiculous “Summer of Learning and Joy” we profiled back on July 21, 2021 titled “The San Diego Unified School District Summer School Scam Translated!“. To be clear, while the SAP is funded by the SDUSD via State and Federal funds, the LU is funded through California Endowment Grants to those non-profits that are willing to FULLY acquiesce to the corrupt SDUSD Board of Education and senior leadership. Our focus this week is on the SAP (ie.; Summer School) portion.
With the recent completion on July 21st of the re-named, declining 4 week, SDUSD “Summer Academic Program” (SAP) we have decided to revisit the SDUSD Level Up program via a fine article from the Hechinger Report that spells out how much summer school actually helps students recover from an “D” or “F” received in a full, 90 day semester. Again, please click on the title (in red) to review the full Hechinger Report article.
PROOF POINTS: Slim research evidence for summer school
by
DDNOTE: Some pf the usual suspects are listed that profited from promoting the multi-million dollar “Summer of Learning and Joy” Fantasy in Summer, 2021 and very little has changed in Summer, 2023.
- Politicians: CHECK!
- Policymakers: CHECK!
- Teachers Union: CHECK!
And…
DDNOTE: Through a relatively expansive search of the SDUSD website and other sources, we found ZERO analysis or research on actual PERFORMANCE of the current and past SDUSD SAP’s regarding Student attendance and/or educational improvement.
DDNOTE: Again, ZERO reporting by the SDUSD for the longer term benefits of the SAP’s.
DDNOTE: AGAIN, ZERO!!! A search of the SDUSD SAP for “Tutors”, Tutoring and other related supports produced absolutely nothing regarding those subjects or how the educationally neediest Students can acquire it.
The only “secret sauce” relevant in the SDUSD are the millions of dollars funneled to SDUSD sycophant non-profits and other organizations that the SDUSD “approves” for California Endowment funds with ZERO accountability or performance measurement standards
DISTRICT DEEDS CONCLUSIONS
Through the review of the Hechinger “PROOF POINTS”, full research on the SDUSD and affiliated school site websites and historical perspective derived from our previous District Deeds posts we were left with a number of questions related to our 2023 HAT TRICK Resolution to DEMAND Honesty, Accountability and Transparency from the SDUSD Board of Education and Senior Management. The questions below all relate to ALL the Students participating in the 2023 SAP, and ultimately to each full school year.
DDNOTE: When asking for statistical performance information for any class, the following represents the key “data point” components required:
- Subject
- Class name/number
- Grade level
- SAP Grades received
- Type of Tutoring deployed
- School site (both home site and SAP site)
- Student demographics
- Teacher demographics (plus Certifications)
- Unique data points by site
- SDUSD summary of ALL data points
SDUSD SAP HONESTY
- What is the full list of performance metrics deployed by the SDUSD for both Teachers and Students in its SAP?
- With horrible 2022/23 attendance rates generating massive learning loss, why was the SAP reduced from 5 weeks to 4 weeks?
- How many Students were passed with a “C” grade during the school year that actually deserved a “D” or “F” because of chronic absenteeism?
- What is the definition of chronic absenteeism in SAP?
- How many Students were failed in SAP because of chronic absenteeism.
- What is the 2023 SAP class pass rate by subject, grade level, school site and Student demographic?
- What forms and quantity of tutoring, outside of the defined classroom time period, were provided to SAP Students?
SDUSD SAP ACCOUNTABILITY
- What is the exact SDUSD Chain of Command responsibility for the success or failure of each 2023 school site SAP?
- What exact, measurable and trackable components define success and failure in each 2023 school site SAP?
- What are the SDUSD employee repercussions for leadership accountability failure or success in each 2023 school site sap?
SDUSD SAP TRANSPARENCY
- When will ALL the historical and 2023 SAP information requested in the HONESTY and ACCOUNTABILITY sections above be available to ALL SDUSD Stakeholders?
- When and how will the SDUSD SAP leadership failures be rectified?
FINAL DISTRICT DEEDS CONCLUSION
The SDUSD MUST make EVERY effort to compile and share ALL the data requested above for BOTH the SAP and regular school year with SDUSD Stakeholders to reinstate a level of trust and destroy the corrosive 15 year legacy of self serving lies and political corruption of Trustee Richard Barrera.
Without sharing any of the HAT Trick information above, the SDUSD SAP is FAILING ALL STUDENTS and just making REAL “SAPS” of ALL SDUSD Stakeholders!
And eventually, through the distrust of SDUSD Stakeholders voting with their feet and removing their Students from the SDUSD, a slow, sad and disturbing death of the SDUSD educational system.
Thank you Tricky Dick!
